RETREAT is in order.

Dear Children,
Grandad and I have made today a day of rest and of writing to friends and family.  Every day for many years, Abba and Grandad have followed The Chieftain while I have been following history and The Washington Post.  Abba's wife, Billie, prefers to read the Rocky Ford Daily Gazette.  Such people will tell you, however, that the best source for information about what is happening in a community is to listen to the gossip of people you trust.
Sad to say, the people you trust do not always tell the truth.  That is why I began to work with my church to write Covenant Programs blogs many years ago.  Computers and programs then were not what they are now.  Most of us old people were wise not to trust them.  I set myself a task to improve our community by participating, writing and using the new technology.  For several years I worked with other small business owners in the Arkansas Valley of Colorado and with public libraries throughout the nation.
Some of our Ruby Friends served Meals-On-Wheels, volunteering out of the Senior Center in Rocky Ford, Colorado.  Others, like Grandad, worked with the National Park Service to develop educational programs like Trails n Rails on trains.  These days, the funding of programs such as these is in retreat.  You don't have to read The Washington Post to know this is true.  That is why I continue to work as a volunteer!
