Gatekeepers

A letter from Mitch Cohen - Webmaster

Great news!  I have completed the integration of a new version of the text enhancer. The new version has all of the features of the old version for compatibility, but it also includes support for the latest browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer version 10 that comes with Windows 8. It also supports the latest versions of Google Chrome. I personally love using Google Chrome. It's fast and efficient. Now it works in Google Chrome when you click the Text Enhancer buttons.  Firefox is also still compatible as are all of the major browsers.

Besides better compatibility, there are a few new features, including "Spelling Check as You Type" on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and other browsers. Firefox already supported this automatically. A new "show blocks" function is handy to see where you may have started a new paragraph with different formatting. There are a number of other handy tools on the new toolbar, including a paste text only icon, which takes out all of the formatting and just leaves the text. This comes in handy when you don't want to bring over a bunch of behind the scenes code and you just want the text to format yourself in the text enhancer. It also supports cutting and pasting text formatting from Word and removes more of the cumbersome code behind a Word document that can cause problems in website HTML.  It will keep the fonts and sizes you pick but get rid of some of the additional code that causes alignment problems on web pages.  Enjoy using your favorite new browser with the text enhancer!

This is the first of a number of new features I have been working on as part of the "super upgrade" project that I have been working on for over a year now. I have released the new text enhancer for everyone to use because of issues with Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10.  I will also be installing at least one new menu system soon for everyone, which will help with compatiblity with Microsoft Internet Explorer 10. I am personally not a fan of Microsoft's browser. It seems vulnerable to attacks from spyware and the new release of their Internet Explorer has cause many issues for developers. Google Chrome (which I use the most) now has by far the largest percentage of users at 52.9%, with Firefox coming in second at 28.2%,  Microsoft Internet Explorer at 11.8%, and Safari at 3.9%. These stats come from w3schools.com.
