Mom and Grandad end their professional workweek together with a date. In the beginning, they did this on Friday nights. These days in retirement, the date has migrated to Thursday mornings and to following FB friends who are into photography. They have lunch at The Barista (or brunch) after meeting with retired Otero Junior College friends and colleagues. This morning they discussed their plans for a family reunion, their correspondence, and hopes for the year to come.
They have also been preparing Mom to face her greatest fear, submitting herself to a bit of minor surgery with an ear specialist in Pueblo. Mom has a great distrust of medical treatment and hospitals in general and of surgical procedures specifically. Why else would she have focused on rehabilitation and psycho-neurology when she studied in California? They are preparing their home as well -- to entertain guests, one of three couples whom they have discovered to be potentially their closest friends as couples.
By Sunday 26 January, Mom was preparing her family and friends to let her go, not expecting to see her working any longer in Colorado as she works with the church in New Mexico and with her X in San Diego.
