I have been working for men since I was old enough to walk and talk.   Here is the story that I recall my grandmother telling.  I was sitting, as usual, on my grandfather's lap -- reading. He jumped up, and walking out he said, "Oh m'gosh! I forgot to feed the chickens!"  Dumped on the floor, I too got up, and TODDLING AFTER HIM I said, "Oh, m'gosh!  I forgot to feed the Dickens!"

My dad used to call me his "Christmas Carol."  In my heart, I always new he meant that I was his song.  As I grew old enough to understand, he bought and gave me a gold ring.  He etched the inside of that ring with the word Carol.  I refused to let anyone else ever call me Carol until I met Caroline at the Copper KitchenThat happened after I had given that ring to my "common law" husband whose family stole it.
