Ruth has moved on to Raton, New Mexico, with her AT&T docking phone, #719-468-7137. It's not far from Garfield Place in La Junta, Colorado. It is light-years ahead of 522 Raton Ave., the house that I used to call Seth's.
First thing I stepped outside this morning, I saw a few clouds and stars. I turned to look at the moon and saw a plane flying above it. I thought of what my foster mother, Fanny Irene Ludwig, would have said. "If God had meant for Man to fly, He would have given us wings." She was born in 1900, a cousin to Walt Disney. She was older than my natural grandmother.
I took the plane that I saw flying over the moon, as a sign. Then, on the fourth, I took to flying around Grandad's house like I had wings on my heels! Before noon we had fired one yard man and hired another because the first had taken to telling Dexter what needed to be done and when. We hired a man who would respect me and do what we asked him to do on a schedule convenient for us.
By the time of my granddaughter's visit, I knew that plane had, in fact been a sign.
